Coram Beanstalk initiative

During the past few of years we have built excellent working partnerships in the local community with both Lark Hall Primary School in Stockwell and Trinity St Mary’s Primary School in Balham.

The projects and activities that the children and teachers have been involved with have been hugely beneficial to all parties and our links will continue to grow stronger as a result.

We are proud to have set up, with the help of volunteering parents, our Page Turners initiative, supporting reluctant readers from a local school every Saturday morning in our Library.  We also continue contributing to the Coram Beanstalk reading programme, a charity which visits Hillbrook Primary School in Tooting to develop young readers in Key Stages 1 and 2.

Our chosen charities last academic year were the Ruth Strauss Foundation, Winston’s Wish, Kang Daek School in Cambodia (see below) and the British Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal. Children enjoyed learning about the aims of the charity which they were helping and raised funds through a number of exciting activities.

We are entering our third year of being a Partner School of United World Schools, working towards building a successful partnership with a school in rural Cambodia. It has been a further enrichment of our pupils’ Hornsby House education to see the difference that they are able to make, even from a significant distance, and how they are able to engage with a school that is so different from theirs, especially throughout the pandemic.
